In addition to traveling to California to cover the Dapper Day event in LA, I am also THE official photographer for the Walt Disney World Event. I am so so lucky to be involved with this wonderful organization of amazing people. Photos are after the jump! Head to my flickr page to see more!
If you didn’t know, I am a wedding and events photographer as my “real job”. Disney is for fun! But sometimes the passions combine… I am so lucky to be one of the official photographers for Dapper Day at Disneyland! Here are a few of my favorite photos from this past Spring event. Hit the jump for a photo heavy post!
While watching Brad Bird’s new movie Tomorrowland, one of the only things I could think about was how Conservatives are not gonna like it. I know that paints a large group of people with a broad brush and there will be some open minded conservatives who happen to also be Disney fans, that will likely enjoy it, but for the most part it is a movie that operates in the opposition of a corporate and greed driven world.
As a Disney fan, I was very excited for this movie. As a Disney historian, I was VERY excited for this movie. I felt like throughout the entire trailer and previews that this movie was made for ME. It isn’t often that my core obsessions get to join hands and be in a movie together.
What are my core obsessions you ask?
Science and Technology
Inter dimensional/time travel
This makes up most of my nerd core. My favorite movies are the Back to the Future movies. I love Star Wars. Star Trek. Neil Degrass Tyson. Bill Nye The Science Guy. I know so much about the 1964 World’s Fair you’d think I was there. (I was born in 1985) And then of course Disney. The glue that holds together all of my whimsy and hope for a cynical world. I never thought those 4 things would ever intersect. But then they made Tomorrowland.
It feels awkward to bring Politics into my Disney fandom. I don’t want my blog to be divisive. I don’t want people that are conservatives to paint me as a liberal and never take me seriously again. I suppose I’m realizing I try and hide my liberalism, because in central Florida, it’s just not something you tout. There are many crazies among us, and I have been accosted in the past for bumper stickers. Even after being threatened by a dude in a drive through, the cop investigating that situation asked me, “What did you expect having a bumper sticker that reads, “Republicans for Voldemort”?” I’m not even gonna apologize for that one. It’s perfect. I expect to not be threatened with murder, but you know…
So why is Tomorrowland Not a Movie for Conservatives?
Warning! There be Spoilers Ahead! General movie plot spoilers.
CONFIRMED – at Trader Sams the lifesaver is from Maelstrom. Yay!
When I’m at Disney in the parks, sometimes when my magic band or my fast passes don’t work, I look into my fiance or friends faces and casually say “1 billion”.
It usually makes us laugh as we remember that Disney recently spend a literal billion plus researching, designing and implementing My Disney Experience, which has given us magic bands and fastpass+ along with an entire web identity.
This blog lives in a world where I’ll just assume you’re bringing me along to photograph and guide your vacation, and if you’re not.. please pop over to my website DisneyByStephenie.com. So if you’re not a local, look away because after reading this, you will decide to move to Florida, or you will hire me to photograph and guide a day or two of your vacation.
So, to my locals, What is with all the complaining!? As a Walt Disney World Annual Passholder, you have it the BEST out of everyone. Don’t worry. I’ll explain.
If you believe twitter and some of the Disney Bloggers, My Magic Plus and Fast Pass Plus are the worst things to happen to Walt Disney World. And for vacationers that may have some truth, but for us locals?? It’s perfect.
I’m writing this at 12:57 on March 31st, 2015. It’s spring break. But… maybe I want to pop over to MK this afternoon. With the old system, I have to wait to get in the park and walk up to Space Mountain to realize that all the FPs are gone and I’ll have to queue it.
But today? LOOK AT ALL THE THINGS AVAILABLE!
I have my pick of the park! So what used to be a stressful journey of “we won’t be able to ride anything unless we get there at rope drop” can turn into an evening of Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain. During spring break! I could even meet Anna and Elsa if I want!
As they have rolled out FP+ over the last 2 years, I have sat quietly and watched and gone into the parks about once a week. I spent a few days at Disneyland, and guess what? Though Disneyland is a small park I sure got tired running around JUST to collect fast passes! I kept saying, if ONLY there was an electronic system that could reserve my spot in line!! I couldn’t believe I missed my magic band!
Now, I’ll be upfront and say, Disney has never compensated me to say this, It’s my own opinion. And you’ll realize that when I write part 2 because for vacationers, it’s not quite that easy.
But seriously! No one is saying how awesome it is to be a passholder!! And for the #casualguest it really is.
As a passholder, what do you dislike about MM+? Am I in the minority here?
3 years ago I’d never heard of Trader Sams.
Gearing up to my first Disneyland trip, I hadn’t really viewed many spoilers from the resort. That’s one thing about me. I’m not a fan of reading about things ahead of time. I’m always terrified the reviewer will say something and it will impact my opinion. If you’re reading this, your life is far less anxiety filled than mine, so good for you.
